MLO Reflective Narrative
I took an introductory linguistics course in English (LING 392) that taught me the basics of the english language system. In this course I had to analyze the speech patterns of someone who was a non-native speaker. Besides presenting the discrepancies I found in class, I also had to co-write a paper where we explained all of the interesting differences we had discovered. I also took a course that was focused on bilingualism in the Spanish-speaking world (SPAN 345). This class gave us a basic understanding of linguistics in Spanish, as well as how it applies to bilinguals. We learned about code-switching and why it happens. I am currently enrolled in an introductory translating course (SPAN 315) that is giving me the tools to create authentic and just translations.
